Dr Rajnish Attavar

Chair, South Eastern Division

Rajnish Attavar (Raj) was elected as Chair of the SE Division in 2025, a role he will hold until 2029. He has been actively involved in the SE Division and the Faculty of Intellectual Disability for over 10 years.

Raj is an international medical graduate, having completed his MBBS at Bangalore University, India. He pursued General Psychiatry training at the Royal Free and associated hospitals in North London and further specialised in Intellectual Disabilities at St. George's Hospital, London.

Raj moved to the UK in 1996 and obtained his CCT in Intellectual Disabilities in 2006. He currently works as a Consultant Psychiatrist at Hertfordshire Partnership University Foundation NHS Trust (HPFT). He has been appointed Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Hertfordshire.

In addition to his clinical role, Raj serves as a Training Programme Director (TPD) for the Thames Valley Deanery, where he is responsible for facilitating and delivering comprehensive training and education for higher trainees in Intellectual Disabilities. He has also served as a Regional Representative for Intellectual Disabilities.

Raj has been a Local Negotiating Committee (LNC) representative for HPFT, advocating for doctors' rights and employment protection for the past five years. His clinical interests include neurodevelopmental disorders, user-led research, and teaching.
