
Dr Suchithra Thirulokachandran

Dr Suchithra Thirulokachandran is a consultant in Intellectual Disability Psychiatry working in the West Midlands region. She is an international medical graduate, trained in India and worked in the UK since 2000. Having obtained her medical degree in Chennai at Ramachandra Medical college and Research institute, she achieved her MD in internal Medicine in the then Madras University before moving to the UK to pursue a career in Psychiatry. Suchi, as she is known to all her patients and colleagues alike, also has a diploma in Clinical Neuropsychiatry from the University of Birmingham.
Suchi is passionate about equity of access in health care and is committed to providing care and support to patients with varying healthcare needs, ensuring services are developed to meet everyone's divergent needs.
As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Secure care services for Intellectually Disabled Patients at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, Suchi has used her clinical and managerial roles to ensure policy and national guidance are adapted and implemented to meet the needs of the population that accesses the services. She sees her College role as an integral part of ensuring national policies on psychiatric practice address the clinical needs of her patients, supporting policy development from a clinically informed, patient-centred view.
