Event Information
Event overview
Hoarding is one of the least understood and severely stigmatised conditions despite being present to the extent of interfering with life function and safety in 5% of adults. The aim of this event is to examine the concept of hoarding as a symptom of a range of psychiatric conditions throughout the lifespan, as well as taking a closer look at the diagnosis of hoarding disorder and its overlap with other conditions such as OCD, OCPD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Autism in adults and children.
Treatment will be discussed along with the recent research in this area. Although much of the existing research concentrates on CBT and behavioural intervention, the area of medication will be explored in light of the most recent research. Practical examples and case histories of CBT with people with hoarding will be discussed in full. By fully examining the problem, examining the causes and looking at practical solutions along with the , albeit limited , evidence-base , this course will help to break down some of the misunderstandings and lack of understanding from professionals to this marginalised group of patients.
Attendees can expect to:
- Understand hoarding as a symptom and acknowledge what can cause the problem
- Understand Hoarding Disorder and how this overlaps with other psychiatric conditions
- Examine the treatment of hoarding throughout the life cycle
- Examine the research in psychopharmacological as well as psychological interventions
This event is targeted at all mental health care workers and psychiatrists (from a junior to a senior level).
